Women in HPC at the Durham HPC/AI Days: Community Building and Fostering Diversity

6 May 2024

Building on the success of the ARCHER2 Celebration of Science and the UK Green Computing Workshop, Women in HPC (WHPC) will be at Durham HPC/AI Days.

As a representative of the UK community of WHPC Chapters and Affiliates, I have organised a session to discuss community building and the value of fostering diversity. This event will highlight the importance of improving diversity within the workplace, identify changes desired by the audience, and showcase the WHPC chapter local to Durham, N8 CIR.

We extend a warm invitation to all members, friends, and allies to join our session titled “Community Building and Fostering Diversity” on Thursday, May 9th, from 13:00 to 15:00. This session will feature lightning talks, a Lyceum Panel, and an open discussion session.

What is a Lyceum, you ask? Launched at ISC23 by Addison Snell under the name “The Fishbowl,” this session transforms the traditional panel by incorporating diverse voices from the audience. This approach ensures that the discussion remains focused on the needs of session attendees. WHPC further refined Addison’s concept in late 2023, renaming it a Lyceum, which roughly translates to “Forum for All People.”
