53rd International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP '24)

12 August 2024 - 15 August 2024

The International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP) is one of the oldest continuously running computer science conferences in parallel computing in the world.

Taking place in Gotland, Sweden, ICPP '24 is a premier forum for researchers, scientists, and practitioners in academia, industry, and government to present their latest research findings in all aspects of the field.

EPCC PhD student Ricardo Jesus will present a paper on evaluating code generation for the new NVIDIA Grace CPU.

“Evaluating and optimising compiler code generation for NVIDIA Grace” describes work that explores the performance of the main optimising compiler toolchains currently available for high-performance AArch64 processors on the recently released NVIDIA Grace CPU and finds that there is a large variation in performance for threaded parallel runs. The paper investigates in detail where the LLVM toolchain performs worst and proposes optimisations, including changes at the compiler level, to improve code generation in those cases. The performance improvements account for speedups of over 70% in some kernels.
